Lecture on climate litigation given by Prof. Pilar Perales Viscasillas at Fide Fundación (19/09/2024)

On 19 September, Prof. Pilar Perales Viscasillas, Professor of Commercial Law at the University Carlos III of Madrid and member of the Climate Strategic Initiative UC3M, participated in the International Arbitration and Litigation Forum of Fide Fundación to give a presentation on climate litigation. The session was moderated by Prof. Ignacio Díez-Picazo Giménez, Professor of Procedural Law at the Complutense University of Madrid and academic advisor of Fide Fundación.

During her speech, Prof. Perales Viscasillas, starting from the implications that sustainability is having and will foreseeably have on companies, which are increasingly regulated in this area, addressed the phenomenon of climate litigation. Indeed, there is a growing number of disputes in the context of the fight against climate change. These cases, which are increasingly varied, have been and are being pursued in many different forum and, indeed, international commercial arbitration has great potential for channelling some of these disputes.
